TRAVEL WITH ROCKING CHAIR ANNIE  WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR HOME
s

Recently I made an 11 day rocking chair trip to Norway.  I have traveled thousands of miles in real life. Now all that is left are memories. I see that this PRETEND trip I just finished left memories also…just as real. The mind is a wonderful thing; when real or imaginary memories are recorded…it remembers!!
This is how I did it.

“First I had to choose a place… Norway. Then I decided how to pay for it…I gathered all the monopoly money in the house and found it would amply pay for the trip. I could afford to stay in the best hotels and eat the best food without giving a thought to money. When I think of all the nights I slept on a Greyhound bus!! I also decided that after I slipped between the sheets in a faraway hotel, I would sleep at home. Then the next morning I would awake back on my trip.Examples:

9/06/2011Then I checked the airline schedules on internet to find the best way to get to my destination. For Norway I had a 6 hour layover at O’Hare in Chicago. That turned out to be good because I made up some friends there!!
9/07/2011 Then on to London (7:30 am arrival) and finally in Oslo at 11 am.  Checking this information out is important for you to believe you are actually making a trip.

‘Next check news online each day for the city you are visiting.  Learning what is happening there will make it more real to you. Then check the weather every day. Follow your calendar and stay current with it as you move along.

‘Online look up hotels in the city you selected. Then pick the most expensive one. Why not? There will be pictures of the best rooms & other information about special luxuries… You tube often has videos about the best hotels. Find out as many details about the hotel as possible. Does it have a spa? See a pic of the hotel restaurant and find out what they serve.

‘I met some pretend friends at O’Hare and we spent time together in Oslo. You don’t have to do that, but it will be more fun if you do. You will find madeup friends are crazy about you….Do you have favorite celebrities you would like to be part of your sightseeing group. Why not picture them traveling along with you. It will make it more fun.

‘Then by video and online find the things of interest to see and do in your first city. You can find a pic online or a youtube video for each thing. Picture yourself in the videos. If need be, do it more than once. You are in no rush…just find what you can when you can. Some of you have a lot of time…some of you have little. Just custom fit this to you. Your first city may take several days. Do you like historical buildings, museums, galleries, zoos? Fancy restaurants? Parks? Look them up on line and put them them on yourmust see or do list!!

‘You will need to decide how to go from one place to the next. Will you go by bus or train or rent a car? Look up information. Look online and see what is best for you in seeing the country you are in. Choose the best, you are worth it. For example I took an exciting train trip across the mountains to Bergen. There were several videos on You tube about that ride. There will be many videos about  the places you want to see also.
‘If you don’t own a computer, you can easily do this at the library. You can use the computer there; you can also check out books you might find on the country you select.

‘Do you want to go on a cruise as part of your trip? Choose the grand suite for yourself. Get pics of it and the ship and picture yourself right there. If you have a printer, copy these pics to save and look at often. In my case I spent 7 days on a Hurtigruten ship going along the the coast of Norway. I stopped at towns all the way to Kirkenenes near the Russian border. If a cruise doesn’t fit in with what you are doing, save it for another trip…for sure, you won’t want this trip to be your last.” !!!! ann caldwell brewer

  1. At first I only wanted to have fun. Then I found I would remember the pretend trips better if there was a story tied to it. Also, I quit imagining myself sleeping back home..just stayed on the trip. Now I remember these pretend trips as if they really happened. Yes, the mind is a wonderful thing.
