"Back on the ranch" Ben reserved a magnificent hotel for us.
ALVEAR PALACE HOTEL which is considered to be one of the twenty best hotels in the world. We can add our names to the list of hundreds of celebrities and dignitaries who have stayed here.
He prepaid the rooms, all our meals, tips, everything with our Monopoly Money Charge Card.
Ben is acting as our personal assistant by phone from Memphis. He is so happy to hand us such luxury, while he gets to stay home in front of the TV.
When Ben read,"The majestic rooms and suites, as well as the lobby and other public areas reflect the style of Louis XIV & Louis XVI and the historical furnishings, crystal chandeliers, the golden walls and works of art transport visitors to another era and realm of elegance," ...he said, "That's the one for annie!"
We were blown away when we entered the lobby. I felt like I should take off my shoes.
Here is a view of the lobby from one of the side rooms. There are fresh flowers everywhere.
Ben explained to the manager that the lady in charge of the group would be a wealthy and eccentric American lady wearing a backpack. She would be responsible for any additional charges. MOI!
No wonder they are showing me such respect.
Ben, ya did good!
We went up to our suite (SUITE?!) to freshen up and returned downstairs to L'Orangeri for a large traditional breakfast. I can't describe how light and airy the room is...glistening china and highly polished silver ware, crisp white cloths on all the tables.
I hear there is a high tea in the afternoon when waiters serving wear white gloves. We decided to have that instead of lunch.
Then Beanie went back to the front desk and requested that a beautician be sent to our room. She nodded in my direction, as she asked that it be put on our bill. Dudn't that beat all and everything?! Now there will be ONE UGLY DUCKLING!
This is how part of our suite looks; it has fruit and fresh flowers. I won't show you the sleeping area which is already covered with Carmine's stuff.
We haven't eaten in this room..just looked in...it isn't my favorite...now I've gone to getting picky, seeing as how I am a wealthy, eccentric old lady and all!
We pulled ourselves away from the hotel long enough to do a little walking tour nearby.
Carmine talked about Mario the entire time and didn't look at anything. But it was fun walking.
We have tickets for both the Jazz Festival going on in Buenos Aires this week
Starting today the City will be filled with mellifluous notes from saxophones, pianos, clarinets, trumpets, guitars and other musical instruments as the annual international Jazz festival kicks off. Renown American pianist, Kenny Werner, will be inaugurating the event at the Teatro Coliseo starting 8.30pm
and a Tango Tour
Dancers who have been seduced by the tango know that there is only one place in the world to truly experience the passion of the dance: Buenos Aires ,Argentina – the birthplace of tango.. Both are highly recommended; we can take our pick....
Tonight...Dinner at La Bourgonge, said to be the best place in town for French cuisine. Tender beef bourguignon was just marvelous. Saw it being made in JULIA JULIA movie. But this beef was awesome.
By the way, we gave jazz and tango tickets for tonight to our personal butler, Tomas. (Every guest has 24 hr. access to a butler.)With this happy bit of information we bid you
Buenas noches, carmine, beanie, and annie
I enjoyed my journey with you today :)

ReplyDeleteI really don't need to revisit my blog to remember the pretend trip to Argentina. It was just wonderful. When I first decided to go, I had no idea about any of it...just a blank page. Then soon through research I began to feel like I was really there!! Now it is forever in my memory bank. ab
ReplyDeleteAS I reread this, I remember at this point I had NO IDEA where this story would go...that's why I lingered so long in Buenos Gradually it took a life all its own
